Medals are one of the three components of the Belarusian awards system. The medals itself are broken down into two categories: service and anniversary (jubilee). Service medals are awarded for either bravery or for distinguished service. The jubilee medals are awarded to commerate an event, such as victory in the Great Patriotic War or the establishment of a governmental office. Thousands of these awards have been given out and some of the medals awarded to Belarusians were created by foreign governments.
